BayHawks Community Outreach

Erie, Pennsylvania – Throughout the 2016-17 season, the Erie BayHawks worked diligently to give back to the Erie community. As a whole, the BayHawks worked with and contributed to various non-profit groups, both local and national. Some of the non-profit organizations the BayHawks worked with this past season include, March of Dimes, Make-A-Wish, the Boys and Girls Club, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Leadership Christian Academy, Mission Empower and The ANNA Shelter.

The BayHawks held four specialty themed uniform auctions benefiting four different non-profit organizations: Saturday, December 3, Regional Cancer Center (Cancer Awareness); Saturday, February 4, American Heart Association (Project:FIT); Sunday, March 5,  Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors (Salute our Troops); Saturday, March 25, Erie Arts and Culture (Green Game). The themed uniform auctioned off on March 25 was designed by General McLane sophomore, Kaley Berger, winner of the first-ever uniform design contest. In total, the BayHawks raised more than $5,000 for these non-profits through jersey auctions.

Throughout the month of December, the BayHawks participated in the “Season of Giving.” At each home game during the month, fans were encouraged to bring items to donate to three separate organizations: Toys for Tots, Second Harvest Food Bank and Coats for Kids. Fans received a ticket voucher to an upcoming BayHawks game for bringing items to donate to these charities. Throughout the seven home games in December, the BayHawks were able to collect hundreds of toys, food items and coats.

At each of Erie’s 24 home games, the BayHawks also recognized one non-profit organization of the night. As the non-profit of the night, each group received a fundraising component of up to 50 tickets to that night’s game, as well as in-game recognition and a spot on the main concourse at Erie Insurance Arena to promote and talk to fans about their organization. Additionally, the BayHawks fulfilled hundreds of donation requests this past season, through cash, tickets or prize baskets.
