ERIE BAYHAWKS TO PLAY MARCH 9TH GAME AS ERIE PEPPERONI BALLS

Promotion will benefit United Way of Erie County’s Imagination Library

ERIE, PA – The Erie BayHawks, NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club, announced today that they will be renamed the “Erie Pepperoni Balls” for their home game on March 9th against the Maine Red Claws.  The organization unveiled the Pepperoni Balls logo and team uniforms during a press conference this morning at Early Connections Early Learning Center in downtown Erie.

The fictitious renaming is part of the team’s first-ever “What Could’ve Been Night” promotion, in which they imagine what the team could have been named if the chosen identity was something truly unique to the Erie region – such as pepperoni balls.  The team’s Pepperoni Ball uniforms will be auctioned during the March 9th game, with proceeds benefiting the United Way of Erie County’s Imagination Library.

“We wanted to do something very fun and memorable during our 10th season, and pepperoni balls are so unique and synonymous with Erie, we thought let’s imagine if that was our team name and celebrate something that is great about Erie,” said BayHawks and Pepperoni Balls team president Matt Bresee.  “We’re going to let the world know about delicious pepperoni balls that originated right here in Erie, PA while helping the United Way of Erie County’s Imagination Library, a program that’s having such a positive impact in the Erie community.”

“United Way is pleased to join the Erie Pepperoni Balls and the BayHawks for “What Could’ve Been Night,” in support of the Imagination Library. Through strong collaboration and partnership from organizations like the BayHawks, we are able to ensure more children in Erie County enter kindergarten with a love of reading,” said development officer Nick Cianci.

The Pepperoni Balls logo features an animated pepperoni ball with eyes, arms and legs and a tongue made of pepperoni, and holding a basketball in his left hand.  The uniforms are adorned with “Pepperoni Balls” across the chest in bold black and red font with players’ numbers to match.  The Pepperoni Ball man is set behind the letters and numbers and the United Way’s Imagination Library logo appears on the back of the jersey beneath the player’s name.

In addition to the uniform auction, pepperoni balls will be sold for $1.00 each at all Erie Insurance Arena concession stands during the March 9th game and every dollar of each purchase will be donated to United Way of Erie County’s Imagination Library.   This donation is courtesy of Erie Events and International Bakery, the official pepperoni ball supplier to Erie Insurance Arena.
