BayHawks Complete Trade with Charge

Erie, PA – The Erie BayHawks, NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club, has completed a trade with the Canton Charge, the team announced today. Erie has traded the returning player rights of Jordan Mathews to the Charge, in exchange for Billy Preston.

Preston (6-10, 230), appeared in 10 games for Canton this season, tallying 6.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 18.1 minutes of action. He was signed to a two-way contract by the Cleveland Cavaliers on July 6, 2018. Preston saw action in six games at the Las Vegas Summer League for the Cavs and appeared three preseason contests. Cleveland waived Preston on Dec. 2, 2018. During the 2017-18 season, he suited up for BC Igokea of the Adriatic League in Europe, playing in three games (two starts) notching 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in 15.8 minutes. The Redondo Beach, California native was a 2017 McDonald’s High School All-American.

Mathews (6-4, 203), an Atlanta Hawks affiliate player in 2017-18, appeared 40 games for the BayHawks last season (11 starts), registering 8.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 20.4 minutes.

Erie will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2018 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showecase. The BayHawks will face the Texas Legends on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. ET and the Northern Arizona Suns on Friday, Dec. 21 at 5:30 p.m. ET. Both of Erie’s games at Showcase will be aired on ESPNU.
