BAYHAWKS LAUNCH NEW COMMUNITY PROGRAM, PROJECT: HOPE

“Helping Create Opportunities and Possibilities for Erie’s Youth”

ERIE, PA – The Erie BayHawks, NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club, announced today a new community program called Project: HOPE, which stands for “Helping Create Opportunities and Possibilities for Erie’s youth.” The program is aimed at helping create more opportunities for Erie’s minority youth in the areas of education, careers and overall quality of life.

Project: HOPE will include a series of events throughout the BayHawks season that will encourage select youth to realize their potential for success now and into the future.

“Our goal is that kids participating in Project: HOPE know that they can achieve whatever it is they aspire to, and there are people and organizations willing to help them along the way,” said BayHawks Team President Matt Bresee.

BayHawks staff, along with several community members, formed an advisory council to help shape the program’s goals and identify how the program can make a positive impact in the community.  The advisory council will select as many as 100 seventh grade students within the inner city to participate during the first year.

Project: HOPE events planned for this season include a meet and greet with program participants meeting various community leaders and business people at a BayHawks game, job shadows and workplace visits, college visits, participation in the BayHawks MLK Celebration game on January 19, and an opportunity for participants to play basketball at Erie Insurance Arena and meet BayHawks players and coaches.  The team plans to make Project: HOPE an annual program.

The BayHawks will be back in action Friday night at Erie Insurance Arena as the Westchester Knicks come to town. Tickets can be purchased online at eriebayhawks.com or at the Erie Insurance Arena box office.
