Erie, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, December 16, 2014 – The Erie BayHawks will honor Erie native Kayla McBride during the team’s home game on December 30. McBride, a member of the WNBA’s San Antonio Stars, is currently playing professionally in Hungary and is returning home for a holiday break.
McBride will host a free skills clinic at Erie Insurance Arena for a group of underprivileged children in the afternoon, followed by her alma mater, Villa Maria Academy, playing a doubleheader of JV and Varsity games at 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM respectively. The BayHawks game versus the Bakersfield Jam will tip-off at 7:00 PM and McBride will serve as honorary team captain followed by an autograph session for fans. Villa Maria Academy is sponsoring the day’s games and will give away a limited number of commemorative McBride t-shirts to fans throughout the night.
Discount admission tickets can be purchased at the Villa Maria athletic office. Cathedral Prep and Villa Maria season ticket holders will be admitted free and can visit the Erie Insurance Arena box office for tickets. One ticket is valid for all the day’s games.

McBride has had a decorated playing career that started with her leading Villa Maria Academy to two state titles in both her junior and senior seasons. She went on to play at Notre Dame where she was a three-year starter, went to the Final four three times and lead the Fighting Irish to an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the National Championship game in her senior season. McBride was selected third overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft by the San Antonio Stars and averaged 13 points per game in route to helping lead the Stars to a playoff appearance. McBride is currently playing for Uniqa Euroleasing Sopron of the Hungarian basketball league.
